This FREE Community Gathering of Activists brought
Black & Brown communities together and allies
to develop a grass roots movement, and dismantle
the private-for-profit Louisiana Prison System
& ICE Detention Jails plaguing our communities
and breaking up families.
Louisiana jails more people than the whole country of China,
and is first in the country for its ever-increasing prisoner population.
Award-winning interdisciplinary provocateur and activist artist
José Torres-Tama engages in creative practices that address
the anti-immigrant hysteria gripping GrinGoLandia,
and the jailing of immigrant asylum seekers.
He launched this initiative to Bring Black / Brown communities and allies
together to address the human abuse and proliferation of private jails
in Louisiana, and dismantle a brutal for for-profit-prison system.
He opened the event with a brief spoken word performance
of immigrant asylum seekers and brutalities
experienced in ICE Detention.
